The ocean outside of Accrendo Weyr seemed peaceful and calm but if telepathy could be heard it would have been filled with the never ending musings in a circular debate.
I understand it makes no sense that humans seem to only have one genetic rank for everyone and everything else intelligent doesn't but maybe humans just don't look different but are differentiated by less obvious means. More confident and therefore leader-like humans tend to be taller and different personality traits then people like say, yourself.But on the other hand they seem to pop up from any line. Not just the best in those traits. Why doesn't that happen in my species?
Ariss paused for a moment but this had been running around in Kaloae's head for several days now and a different question was in her mind entirely.
Kalonae? Where are we? I normally keep track but we have been over the ocean and with no landmarks it is harder to recall.
Kalonae hovered for a moment in surprise at her distance out and her hunger that had been ignored.
I guess we are where we are. This island seems inhabited and where there are people there will be enough to eat and probably a map back. Do not worry. Now what was I talking about again?
Why humans don't look different though different humans tend toward different ranks and subject. Would you look at this place? There are sings of construction but no one is here. Perhaps further inland we will see who made this. Who knows? maybe this is the other species without such ranks.

Do you remember the last 'intelligent species' you attempted to communicate with? I still have torn feathers from it. Let's not land just yet but you do have a point they build and plan ahead for something that lives in stone... Kalonae suddenly surged up-wards to Ariss's surprise It's brilliant! Environment creates differences in your species so different talent come from any that fits that environment! Now what factors choose each are hard to say.
"Kalonae I'm riding you!" Came the panicked voice from Ariss
Sorry! everything is going to work out you don't need to panic. Ariss you worry too much about simple matters they are so quickly fixed I will just land here. Kalonae, who had completely forgotten her earlier plan landed smoothly by the end of the lake looking at the building beyond with only mild interest as her poor Ariss seemed so upset and became her main focus.
"I know but nothing can be done about the long ones and I'm sorry I yelled it was just that I might have fallen and..." with a sigh Ariss dismounted but she immediately felt her gryphon's eyes on her. "It is alright" Ariss agreed as she stroked Kalonae's feathers " But we still have no idea where we are and what to do now." Both heads now turned to look at the strange new world around them wondering weather to approach the mountain carved enigma beyond.
